Taking Back Charge Of My Scroll

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

We are all authors, whether we see ourselves as writers or not. On the Day of Judgement, we will be presented with our greatest of works. How great would it be?

We would be unable to edit, promote, review and revise. This book would determine our fate. This book will be a record of our words, actions, intentions and reactions. Continue reading

Moving with Barakah

We are constantly in motion. Whether we are going to school or work or dropping the kids at school then going to work, running errands, shopping, going to the hospital or gym or just getting stuff done, we are moving.

With all these activities, we sometimes feel we are too busy to carry out acts of worship; whilst in reality, most of our chores can be a source of reward. All we need is to have the right intentions. Continue reading

Everyday Essentials: What is in your bag?

Asalaamu ‘Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuhu!

I have never really liked big handbags you know those types like Mary Poppins’ that have everything fitting into them. You get enough weird looks being a hijabi at checkout, and then confusingly rummaging through your bag as you look for your cards or cash…takes it up a notch.

And keys? They may be the worst things to look for. In those moments when I am in front of a locked door and looking for my keys, I have all my scariest thoughts come out to play.

Ramblings: Life essentials

Faith

Family

Friends

This is all you need and in that order too.
Faith – Where would we be without it? We all have to believe in something. It might not be the ideal but what is key is there is believe.
Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous [3:193]😇

Potting her way to financial liberation

So three days ago, I picked up an old copy of sister’s magazine, issue #51 to be precise. I don’t know if it is just me but anytime I pick an old book or magazine or even an article to reread, I find gems I did not see the first time.  Anyways, I came across this superb article “potting a way to financial liberation”.

We all need to be financially liberated especially with the present economic crisis meltdown. Continue reading

Diary of a Hajji 2: Managing time

So few days to Ramadan, I read a book titled “Getting the barakah of time” by Abu Muawiyah Ismail of IOU. It did help me with amazing tips to manage the said resource better. I clearly understood the difference between being on time and in time. Not to blow my own horn but the review…Scratch that!…my review of the book was worthy of being published in SISTERS magazine…but I digress.

So basically, as far as Hajj goes, you are either early, late, on time or in time. I concluded that being in time is the worst and it’s best to be on time when you cannot be early. I would tell you why. Continue reading

Diary of a Hajji 1: True Germophobia

Health they say is wealth. You know how some people have an innate fear of germs or disease or how others have OCD… I personally cannot make a whole meal without washing the spoon I am using to cook after every entry into my pot. Sometimes I wash my hand after adding every spice even when am adding all the spices at once. Hey! I am not a psycho. Just my own compulsion. We all have it in varying degrees. Continue reading

Need a reason to develop a reading culture?

IMG-20150824-WA0014

I have always loved books… not just the reading, the buying, and hoarding too. I recently realised I love recommending books to people and am happy when their feelings mirror mine.

Growing up, I always looked forward to parent-teacher conferences because all the booksellers line my school hall with books. The rules were simple, “any bad report whatsoever equals no book”. Maybe this has helped shape me into good girl… my love for books I mean, as my teachers never had anything bad to say about me, Masha Allah.

In High school, I still used to read. Our school library had mostly those big collections of stories and I did spend a lot of time in my nook in the library.

In the university, I just stopped. Continue reading

Make me or Break me…

Halima was a very sweet girl. She was very pretty, born into a family of 7 and was never out of people pampering her. She was the last child to bless the Mohammed household. She never collected things from strangers, knew very well her ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and was always on time to say her prayer at only 5 years of age.

She was in her last year in primary school when she met Zainab. Continue reading
